I was sure the pirates must have some other plan aside from stealing argonite but if they did I never worked it out. Whilst the action did slightly pick up again, the plot truly baffled me. It feels like such a waste of the main cast.Įpisodes 5 and 6 blurred together a bit for me as I struggled to concentrate. They spend most the episode trying to escape the cave. After the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe dive into a cave to escape the pirates they find themselves trapped in there along with another fellow. We ended Episode 3 with me feeling optimistic about the rest of the serial but this optimism took a nosedive fairly soon into Episode 4. Eventually, feeling that my progress of one episode a month was procrastination taken too far, I decided to just get it over with and watch the final three episodes in one sitting. All I knew was that there were six episodes and a few episodes in this was enough to put me off. No one with any foreknowledge of it has ever happily sat through the entirety of The Space Pirates. If you're lucky, you'll fall in love with every aspect of the show like I have, blemishes and all. If you're interested, jump in, try it out, and see what works for you. But, don't be disheartened if you don't enjoy an episode, a new incarnation of the main character, or even a whole series.ĭoctor Who is all about change and experimentation, with a whole slew of writers getting to have a go at making one of the most diverse TV shows ever made. Now if you do end up enjoying the series, it is recommended to watch from the beginning of series 1 of the modern era, and make your way back through it all in order. Remember these episodes are just my suggested appetizers, and will often present you with the key themes that Doctor Who likes to play around with i.e morality, loss, responsibility, aliens, time travel etc, while also still giving you those classic, memorable adventures. Doctor Who has plenty of anthology-like episodes, and several standalone epics that you can jump into without needing a lot of context from the rest of the season. There is no need to start from series 1 and move all the way through to series 12 in order if that's not your style.
